Chimney Rock volunteers offer a self-guided tour on the paved, accessible one-third-mile Great Kiva trail loop. This trail features the excavated Great Kiva and a partially reconstructed Pit House. Numbered sign posts along the trail correspond to a printed brochure that provides relevant information at each numbered stop. A volunteer is available at the trail head to answer questions and talk about the structures and the people who lived at the site 1,000 years ago.
Fees for self-guided tours are:
| | Adult (17 and older) | $12.00 |
| | Children ages 5-16 years old | $5.00 |
| | Children under 5 years old | Free |
A portion of each tour fee is dedicated to the preservation of the excavated sites. The remainder funds the interpretive program, educational programs, maintenance of the site, and volunteer training.

Self-guided tours are available from 10:45 am to 2:45 pm and are limited to the Great Kiva Trail. Public access to the Pueblo Trail is seasonally restricted beyond the falcon enclosure fence. During this seasonal closure (March 1 - September 30), only guided tours operated by the Chimney Rock Interpretive Association may use the trail, under authority of the USDA Forest Service special use permit.
