You want to become a Chimney Rock volunteer but are not prepared to be an Interpretative Guide or Host at the Visitors Center. What to do? Join the many volunteers who work behind the scenes supporting Chimney Rock. Job opportunities include working in the CRIA business office handling the many calls received as tourists seek information on tours and events at the site. Volunteers also handle photocopying, maintaining records, and answering emails. Staff support in the office is vital to the smooth workings of the site.
Behind-the-scenes volunteers assist with grant writing, deliver flyers, create scrapbooks, schedule volunteers, and produce all the literature and paperwork needed to operate the monument. A volunteer tracks volunteer hours and miles and handles the volunteer recognition program. A team of volunteers makes their pickup trucks and strong backs available whenever anything needs to be hauled.
Special events, such as the weekend-long Life at Chimney Rock, take organization and preparation by many folks.
A volunteer schedules field trips and speakers for the monthly potluck dinners. In fact, it takes a team of volunteers to put on those monthly dinners, enjoyed by all.
CRIA's all-volunteer Board of Trustees manages the organization. Volunteers also fill standing committees for education and fundraising. A team of volunteers masterminded a 2011 conference, "Chimney Rock in the Chacoan World."
